PRESS RELEASE: Orthodox-Calendar.com pays tribute to their LGBT brothers and sisters in Russia with a second 2014 Wall Calendar !

“BIGGER, HARDER, BETTER!” is the name of our second 2014 wall calendar born from the collaboration between our Art Director and Hungarian artist Tienne after their last trip to Russia.

2013 has been a disaster for LGBT people in many Orthodox countries but the most extreme of all was in Russia, where a recently passed law bans so-called gay propaganda in places where children could witness it.

Behind all the cowardly politicians who treat LGBT people as scapegoats for their countries’ economic and political malaise, there is a single, powerful force that is beating the drum of hatred: the Orthodox Church. Whether Russian, Romanian, Georgian, Ukrainian, Serbian or other, certain leaders of the various national Orthodox Churches are actively promoting physical and legislative attacks on the LGBT community.

OC’s team seeks to counteract these negative, radical influences on Orthodox Christianity with its wall calendars. Last year we supported Pussy Riot, the Russian girl band that dared to stand up for freedom of speech. This year we pay tribute to our LGBT brothers and sisters from Russia.

Starting today, anyone can help us supportt our LGBT brother and sisters by purchasing “BIGGER, HARDER, BETTER!” on-line from Amazon or directly from our store at www.orthodox-calendar.com/shop. The price per piece is only EUR 16.99! And for each calendar purchased, we will donate 10% to support LGBT causes in Russia.

The launch of the second edition of our Orthodox Calendar went viral on the net and reinforced our global effort against homophobia in the Orthodox Church. That is why our creative team has been very enthusiastic to work on this tribute, which reimagines iconic imagery ironically transposed into gay scenes.

Thank you for your support and hoping you enjoy the calendar in the coming year. We will meet again next year with a brand new edition!

«LOVE IS LOVE – ORTHODOX OR NOT ! » ©

The 2014 edition of the Orthodox Calendar (#OC2014) pays tribute to gay marriage. It’s the story of young gay couples from Eastern Europe sharing a common dream of one day being able to wed their beloved at the altar of St. Basil’s or St. Sophia’s or any other Eastern rite church.

There are 15 countries in the world that recognize same-sex marriage. Many countries in Eastern Europe are neutral when it comes to this matter – there have been no real attempts to legalise this type of union. But it could be worse. There are 10 countries in the world where homosexuality is punishable by death!

Still, we would like to believe that acts of tolerance and respect for other people’s sexuality are possible. Approximately 8 to 10% of the world’s population is gay. In celebration of the fact that love, regardless of sexual orientation, exists and can be celebrated everywhere and by everyone, we bring you a fantastic selection of artistic pictures.

Starting today, anyone can discover among other related products our 12 seductive artistic pictures by simply ordering on-line from Amazon or directly from our store at www.orthodox-calendar.com/shop . The price for the classic wall calendar is only EUR 16.99, and you can buy our limited edition calendar with uncensored cover for only EUR 29.00!

The first edition of our Orthodox Calendar has been a smashing success and created buzz all over the world. Some cheered for it, some attacked it. But nobody was indifferent to the very first organized global effort against homophobia in the Orthodox Church.

Our creative team is more enthusiastic than ever to work on the calendar. Some of their gay-friendly models, although not gay themselves, have agreed for the second time to strike a pose for our erotic wall calendar this year

We attach bellow a preview of OC2014 cover and our January 2014 picture for your readers to enjoy.

Love is Love – ORTHODOX OR NOT!

2013 has been a disaster for LGBT people in many Orthodox countries. In the Republic of Georgia, Orthodox priests personally led a vicious attack on the country’s gay pride parade. And here in Romania, legislators have been debating amendments to the constitution that would block recognition of same-sex marriage.

Most extreme of all, Russia has implemented a law banning so-called gay propaganda in places where children could witness it. The Minister of Sports has even threatened to apply the law to LGBT athletes competing at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi and LGBT spectators at the games.

We cannot let this continue!

OC’s team seeks to counteract these negative, radical influences on Orthodox Christianity with its wall calendars. Last year, we supported Pussy Riot, the Russian girl band that dared to stand up for freedom of speech.

This year, we are dedicating one of our pictures «Jacob & Esau – Brotherly Love » to our LGBT brothers and sisters in Russia. We ‘ve renamed it «LOVE IS LOVE – ORTHODOX OR NOT! »

Stay tuned with us and discover soon our 2014 edition paying tribute to gay marriage!

Romanian Orthodox Church blames foreigners and non-believers for our wildly popular Orthodox Calendar 2013!

The Romanian ProTV reported some astonishing news this week. According to ProTV, the Romanian Orthodox Church has discovered the identity of the persons responsible for the Orthodox Calendar 2013. Apparently, the investigation of the Romanian Orthodox Church revealed that the persons responsible belong to an “anti-church movement established in Russia”. Further, it claims that the photos were actually shot in Poland with foreigners who are not members of the Orthodox church.

If this response to label us as foreign agitators sounds familiar, it should. Think of Nicolae Ceausescu’s response to the hundreds of thousands who filled the streets in the days leading to his ouster. Think of Moammar Qaddafi, in his final angry speeches. And think of Bashir Assad, still entrenched in Syria as he slaughters his own people in the name of a “reality” all his own.

As someone has pointed out in a posting in response to the ProTV report, one of our photos contains a sign written in Romanian. So, yes, we confirm that at least one of the photos was taken in Romania. And, yes, the people in the photo are card-carrying Orthodox Church members. The only difference is that — unlike the church hierarchy — these people believe in modernity and freedom and equal rights.

In the meantime, our website was repeatedly hacked last week in an attempt to stop the spread of our calenders. Our team had to work very hard to repair it the past few days. To avoid such a situation and in order to keep satisfying our FANS, we have the calendars on SALE on Amazon UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain sites, as well as by direct orders from us using PayPal (contact us by email for instructions).

Orthodox-Calendar.com suddenly banned from YouTube!

A few months after its launch, the first edition of our Orthodox Calendar has been a smashing success all over the world.

But our success does not please everyone. After tens of thousands of viewings, we suddenly had our preview video for Orthodox Calendar 2013 banned from YouTube and our YouTube account immediately terminated, without any warning! YouTube even rejected our appeal and insists that our video violated Its Community Guidelines.

Our posting had no profanity, no pornography, no hate speech, no nudity except bare buttocks.  It is anybody’s guess how our preview video could possibly violate the YouTube Community Guidelines, which our attorney has reviewed. YouTube has not provided any further explanation.

In the spirit of freedom of speech and honest debate, O-C’s team has already created new links to our banned video: https://vimeo.com/56786221

Is it possible that religious authorities or even governments pressured YouTube to shut us down? Whatever questions might arise about whether or not the persons pictured in our calendar are or are not priests, we first and foremost want to generate discussions, including as to the role of religion in oppressing “undesirable” minorities like gays, corruption & hypocrisy in organized religions, etc.

How ironic that in the same year that Russia — at the behest of the Russian Orthodox Church — imprisoned members of Pussy Riot for exercising their rights of free speech, YouTube decided to quash our right to free speech.

Outside-the-box priests confess their deepest secrets in a different kind of religious calendar.

It is a time when the Orthodox Church is embroiled in corruption scandals, artist repression, gay sex cover-ups, outrageous behavior and homophobia. Yet some of their members have agreed to strike a pose and openly stand for who they are underneath the priest’s clothing they wear: regular people with passions, preferences, interests and desires.

Our homoerotic calendar features shots mingling the edgy with the HOT. This first 2013 edition tells the individual story of 12 intensely masculine young men and their guests representing different parts of eastern Europe. All are open-minded and believe that besides their passionate devotion to the Orthodox Church, it is important to be perceived as individuals committed to diversity and acceptance. And this is what brings them closer to the rest of us.

We aim to convey social messages that shows the freedom of speech with iconic expressions reveald from real life. OC’s team seeks to counteract  the negative and radical influences on Orthodox Christianity with its wall calendars. Last year, we supported Pussy Riot, the Russian girl band that dared to stand up for freedom of speech. Estabishing our work in an mixture of homoerotic art photography and subversive ideeas that combine themes  of Christianity with powerfull  and profound social messages that reflect the stand up call of LGBT community regarding freedom of speech.

We think the main concept of our work brings us closer to creative minds like David LaChapelle and Pierre & Gilles who, in our vision had the courage to fight criticisim trough art and inspired us in our work.

Starting today, anyone can discover our 12 seductive artistic pictures of Orthodox priests and their guests by simply ordering on-line. The price per piece is only EUR 10!

Images are available directly from our Facebook account. But if you are curious to find out more, you can write to pr@orthodox-calendar.com
